Integrated Facilities    |   Direct Workforce    |   Full Control

Our steel bridge capability is defined by full control of manufacture, coatings and installation, delivered through accredited in‑house facilities and a directly employed, multi‑disciplinary workforce.

Operating from an eight-acre Lancashire site, our facilities include fabrication workshops, CNC and manual machining, plasma profiling, shot blasting, paint shops capable of highway and rail compliant systems, drawing offices and project management suites.

Core Capability

The Steel Bridge Company delivers steel bridge projects through a manufacture‑led construction model, ensuring buildability, programme certainty and quality control from fabrication through to installation.

Our in‑house facilities support EXC3‑certified fabrication and welding, surface preparation and protective coatings to relevant standards, enabling consistent delivery across highway and rail environments.

Installation is planned and executed by experienced site teams, supported by dedicated logistics planning, contract lifting capability and practical understanding of site constraints and construction sequencing.

  • Steel beam bridges (short to medium spans)

  • Steel truss bridges (deck, pony and through configurations)
  • Bowstring and arch bridges
  • Modular and temporary bridge systems
  • Footbridges and active travel crossings
  • Pipe and service bridges
  • Gantries, walkways and ancillary steelwork

Services extend across the full lifecycle and include:

  • Buildable design and engineering support
  • EXC3 certified fabrication and welding
  • Machining, profiling and preparation
  • Shot blasting and protective coatings (NHSS 19A)
  • Logistics planning and contract lifting
  • Site installation, erection and handover
  • Refurbishment, repainting and maintenance works

Design Capability

Where required, we integrate design capability through established design partnerships, providing buildable, construction‑led solutions supported by early contractor involvement (ECI).

This approach allows design to be developed in parallel with fabrication and installation planning, reducing risk and ensuring engineered solutions translate efficiently into delivered structures.

All works are delivered using accredited processes and robust management systems, providing clients with assurance on quality, safety and programme control throughout the project lifecycle.

Facilities & Physical Resources

Steel bridge delivery is supported by fully integrated in house facilities including:

  • 5,100 m² dedicated fabrication workshops serviced by overhead cranes
  • 660 m² machine shop with manual and CNC turning, boring, drilling and milling
  • 300 m² plasma profiling and bending facility
  • 260 m² chilled iron grit shot blasting facility
  • 850 m² paint shops capable of applying stringent rail and highways compliant coating systems
  • Dedicated drawing and project management suites
  • In house training, meeting and briefing facilities
  • Large stores and yard areas suitable for full trial assemblies and controlled logistics

This level of vertical integration allows quality, safety and programme control from concept through to completion.
